Transactional information system simulator integrating operational risks. Risk Simulator is a strategic agent-based simulation solution allowing:
Eurobios Risk Simulator enables companies to model totally or partly the IS, or the IT network, in order to simulate scenarios which can cause serious disturbances of the system or deterioration of its performance. Simulation is essential to understand Information System complex problems: IS or IT networks performance degradation almost always comes from a combination of several unrelated risks and not from a few obvious risks that are commonly expected and controlled by the company, From the simple saturation of a part of the network to a generalised collapse fraught with consequences for the company, IS can suffer at the same time load variations, malevolent attacks and several operational risks (power failure, human error, fire, relay problem), IS Risk management and availability problems of IT networks are generally complex. It is not humanly possible to predict the severity of the combined impacts of transactional problems and operational risks, Only the simulation technique allows to understand what really happens, to analyse or to predict the problem closer and thus to avoid it. The financial quantification of IS performance problems is difficult. And the tools able to do it, when they exist, are very often rudimentary. Local problems that seem isolated can have multiples and globally devastating effects on the IS by their combination. The impact of these problems is easy to quantify at the local level but with many difficulties at the global one. Moreover, traditionally, the financial cost estimation of these problems is roughly done by the analysis of statistical data, which are often obsolete. These two reasons force responsible companies to resort to new methods allowing to understand the complexity and diversity of problems causes and thus exactly quantify the losses – in performance and in money – for the company. Risk Simulator IS aims to answer to these specific needs. In order to measure the IS nominal performance, we model it in Risk Simulator in order to play a nominal scenario reproducing the normal working (flows, maintenance events, small frequent incidents which impacts are limited and known). This nominal scenario enables to calibrate the tool and to validate its behaviour. The user can then create “what if” scenarios including the happening of various incidents: multiple benign breakdowns, unavailability of the complete site (power cut, seism, inundation…). For any scenario tested by the user, local and global impacts on the system performance are recorded for analysis. During IS design phase: Risk Simulator enables the resource sizing (taking into account security marging). The user can analyse various network configurations, sizing and load allocations. The user can so test different strategies that become a reliable basis for decision makers discussions. During IS exploitation phase: Risk Simulator enables the anticipation of the risks and their impact and provides a decision support for rescue plans and backups definitions. For instance the various scenarios done with the tool enable testing unitary breakdowns, sites unavailabilities or complex problems combination in order to anticipate on the management and on the evolution of equipments in time. Risk Simulator IS, taking into account these parameters and the complexity of information systems, enables to really control the IS risks and availability problems in modern companies.
